Chengde (承德) Tour – Oct 9, 2011

Thanks to Sophia for arranging a wonderful Chengde Tour (承德一曰游
). Chengde is about 180 KM north to Beijing. We visited all 3 attractions Chengde Mountain Resort (避暑山莊), Putuo Zongcheng Temple (普陀宗乘之廟), and Puning Temple (普寧寺).

Chengde Mountain Resort was Qing Dynasty Emperor’s (清朝皇帝) Summer Palace.  Qing Emperor Kangxi (康熙) began to build this summer home in 1703 and Emperor Qinglong (乾隆) completed it in 1792. It took 3 emperors and 8 years to build it.

普陀宗乘是藏语布达拉的汉译故又有小布达拉宫之美誉.  It features a Main Red building and Golden roof top of Wanfaquiyi Hall (万法归一大殿金顶).  We climbed all the way to the top of Main Red building and took some photos nearby the Golden roof top of Wangaquiyi Hall.

Puning Temple houses the world's tallest wooden sculpture of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (22.28 metter hig and 110 ton), hence the Puning Temple is often nicknamed the "Big Buddha Temple". The complex features temple halls, pavilions, drum towers and bell towers.

We had lunch at local dumpling restaurant (清花餃子). At evening, we had hot pot dinner in Beijing's Bar Street.
